The well-known apartment building, located at 444 Central Park West, NY, is notorious for offering some of the most sought after views of Central Park in all of New York. Originally constructed in 1929, this historic, 19 story apartment building encompasses 123 stunning apartments which were since converted to co-operative in 1976 by Curtis Katz. Since then, it has been renovated to included amenities such as high ceilings, beautiful hardwood floors, large closets and distinctive Art Deco details.
For this project, we installed a steel, Thermally Broken, Lift and Slide unit in the bedroom of this one-of-a-kind space. The client requested that they have access to plenty of natural light, views of Central Park and access to the terrace; so a giant lift and slide unit seemed to be the perfect fit. To match the other exterior units on the building and complement the red-brick exterior, the unit was furnished with a dark brown powder coat finish on the exterior and a white semi-gloss on the interior. By glazing this Thermally Broken unit with an 1 ¼” tempered, Low-E IGU, we were able to significantly minimize the U-value of the lift and side system and thus maximize the thermal efficiency of the entire space.
